INTRODUCING MONDAYS AT THE BLOCK

Block 41 has teamed up with Giordano Productions to create Mondays at the Block, a new non-profit concert series featuring exceptional local talent along with national and international stars.  The project was conceived as a means to support musicians while enchanting audiences in a fun and intimate venue.  Block 41 is donating the space for the concerts and 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the artists.

"Mondays at the Block is wholly consistent with Block 41's missions statement." said Dan Temkin, owner and developer of Block 41. "From the outset, we envisioned this as a project that would be supportive of Seattle's creative community.  We couldn't be more excited about getting it off the ground."

The idea for the concert series was first proposed by Adriana Giordano, a singer/producer and founder of Giordano Productions.  Temkin and Giordano have been friends for several years and in 2018 collaborated on Brazil Comes to Belltown, an elegant New Year's Eve soiree benefitting Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Giordano made the case for an intimate new venue in Belltown, in part, to fill the void created by the recent shuttering of Tula's Restaurant and Jazz Club after a 26-year run.  That closure left a number of extraordinarily talented musicians "homeless" and Belltown with one less venue for audiences to enjoy an intimate musical experience.

Giordano came to Seattle from her native Brazil in 1991, after spending two years in London.  She launched Giordano Productions in 2014 as a vehicle for showcasing Brazilian and Latin bands and individual artists in her adopted home in the Northwest.  Since then she's produced over fifty shows.  About the new series, Mondays at the Block, she said "It's been a dream of mine to create a space where audience and artists share the full measure of their passion, time and effort. Dan Temkin and Block 41 have truly stepped up with their generous support of this project, and I'm very excited to be partnering with them to make my dream come true."

The kick-off concert, Seattle Interprets Jobim, took place on January 20th.

The tribute to legendary composer and father of Bossa Nova, Antonio Carlos Jobim, featured a supremely talented lineup of local artists that joined forces for the event:

Marina Albero | piano
Jeff Johnson | bass
Jeff Busch | drums
Darian Asplund | flute/sax
Jacqueline Tabor | vocals
Chava Mirel | vocals
Adriana Giordano | vocals

Up next is an evening with Seattle vocalist, Greta Matassa on February 24th.  Tickets are available through https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4515008
